Hello and welcome to our website! Skybirds is a small family run farm in Rosedale, WV. We originally started breeding and showing in Frederick, MD, but moved to the beautiful mountain state in 2021. Though we started with Nubians, we have shifted our focus to breeding show quality Alpines. We attend local shows in West Virginia, and occasionally show in neighboring states as well. We and attended our first ADGA national show in 2018, and again in 2021. We specifically breed for strong and correct does that milk willingly while maintaining a healthy body condition. We purposefully try to keep our herd small. As a result, we are able to personally give each kid, doe, and buck the love and attention they need and deserve to thrive; and our herd is extremely healthy as a result.

For the past five years we have primarily shown in the Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia region, and we have made many connections and friends here. But a few years ago, we purchased 102 beautiful acres in the Appalachian Mountains of central West Virginia with the intention of moving our herd there in the future. In 2019 we first began building the barn, and in June 2021, we moved the herd. We will miss Maryland and the friends we have made here, but West Virginia is where our future lies!

Although Rachael is the one who started this herd and breeding, she joined in the army in July of 2021 leaving the care of her wonderful goats to her mom and dad (Larry and Kim) while she begins her career as a Blackhawk repairer and crew chief. We fully intend to keep her breeding going until she can continue with her herd in the future.

Since our move to West Virginia in 2021, Larry and Kim have been wearing many hats. In addition to breeding and caring for the herd, they have built barns, cleared land, tended gardens, and truly built our new home from scratch; all while meticulously managing roughly 30 goats. However, as of November 2024, Rachael will be home! Since our move, our kids have been dam raised (though we continue to test yearly for CAE) due to the time constraints that come with building a home (and farm) from scratch. But this coming kidding season we will return to bottle raising our kids, as well as attending more shows to give our girls the chance to show off!

"In the last light of the evening, the air was thick and purple, stars cold and distant high above, as the sun settled behind the peaks of the worn Appalachian mountains. As those last threads of light touched the sky, there was a little green pond hidden among the trees in the cooling air, mist rising from the surface. From that pond, a little white bird, an osprey, rose from the murky water above the trees. In the last light of the evening, the osprey was the skybird."
