Hello and welcome to our website! Skybirds is a small family run farm now in Rosedale, WV, which has been breeding Alpine dairy goats for six years. Though we started with Nubians, we have shifted our focus to breeding show quality Alpines. We attended local shows in Maryland and neighboring states, and attended our first ADGA national show in 2018 and again in 2021. We specifically breed for strong, sturdy does that milk willingly while maintaining a healthy body condition. We purposefully keep our herd size to a minimum, keeping less than 10 does in milk each year. With a smaller herd, we give each doe the love and attention she needs, and our herd is extremely healthy as a result.

For the past five years we have primarily shown in the Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia region, and we have made many connections and friends here. But a few years ago we purchased 102 beautiful acres in the Appalachian mountains of central West Virginia with the intention of moving our herd there in the future. In 2019 we first began building the barn, and in June 2021, we moved the herd. We will miss Maryland and the friends we have made here, but West Virginia is where our future lies!
Although Rachael is the one who started this herd and breeding, she joined in the army in July of 2021 leaving the care of her wonderful goats to her mom and dad (Larry and Kim) while she begins her career as a Blackhawk repairer. We fully intend to keep her breeding going until she can continue with her herd in the future.

"In the last light of the evening, the air was thick and purple, stars cold and distant high above, as the sun settled behind the peaks of the worn Appalachian mountains. As those last threads of light touched the sky, there was a little green pond hidden among the trees in the cooling air, mist rising from the surface. From that pond, a little white bird, an osprey, rose from the murky water above the trees. In the last light of the evening, the osprey was the skybird."
